Social Media has really changed how people use the internet today. Social media has many positive and negative effects on it users. I recently started using social media a few years ago and it has really impacted my life. I was really hesitant at first to even try Facebook because everything you post is public. And once it’s posted, there is no going back because it will be on the internet forever.
My favorite form of social media is
Facebook because I can use it on a daily basis to connect with my family and
friends. It helps keep me up to date with my family and friends. From the
comfort of my phone or laptop, I can just go to my page and see if someone I
know just got engaged or is having a baby. It is also a great source to keep up
with current events like weather and breaking news. Facebook users love to post
about the weather and any other important current events happening.
Facebook does tend to get annoying after
a while at times. Right now one of the most talked about topics is the current
election. No matter what candidate side you are on, if you are on Facebook it’s
being constantly talked about. There is a lot of negativity and immaturity
about the election being posted on there. I made the mistake of feeding into it
in the past and I noticed that some of my Facebook friends deleted me.
The most annoying trend on there is when
people make outrageous religious posts or post pictures of terminally ill
people. For example, someone will post a photo that says if you don’t like this
photo you don’t believe in God. I don’t
understand how you can base someone’s religious belief off of that. I feel sympathy for terminally ill people,
but I don’t want it constantly thrown in my face. It’s one thing if I
personally know this person, but these are complete strangers.
I don’t mind the occasional heartwarming
stories I come across online, especially on the Good Morning America page because
they are done in a classy and inspiring way. I think it’s all about how you
display a cause in a good manner. After reading and listening to some inspiring
stories online, it really does make you feel uplifted and want to do better.
The advantage of sites like this also has the benefit of spreading awareness. You
will come across posts notifying you that October is the month for Breast
Cancer Awareness; this will have a huge impact on helping to save women’s
lives.
The downside to social media, it can
ruin your relationship if you let it. If you are involved in criminal activity
and you brag about it online, you will get caught. People tend to constantly
post where they are going and what they are doing. This is a big mistake in the
media world. You never know what criminal is reading this right now out there
and is planning to rob you.
There are a lot of awful things going on
in the world and people get angry and voice their opinion on here. They say
things on here that they can never take back literally. And if you’re not
careful these words could cost you your job. At the end of the day I will still
continue to use social media. I will just use caution with what I say, like my
second grade teacher always said “if you don’t have anything nice to say, then
don’t say it at all”.
